The role of interpersonal relationships in the workspace can be seen in its perfunctory position as a conveyor of information and objectives in a place of work. It also enhances collaboration amongst members of staff to foster productivity and teamwork.

The relationship among workers is not always an easy ride as the staff members are a composition of a heterogeneous community of people, individuals clad with different personality traits and shaped by perspectives that are induced or influenced by personal ideologies.

Workplace squabbles between employees can be managed, and sometimes with the help of the bosses, these scenarios are doused with the simplest intervention of the employer or the management team.

So, what happens when this conflict is between the employer and the employee? As an employee, your obligations in an organization are tethered to the objectives of the employer, but when there is a disagreement between the employer and the employee, who seeks atonement or rather, who eats the humble pie?

Well, many will say the employer should make amends and find a way to mend fences with the boss, but the truth is that such altercations should never get physical as that will only hand an employee a one-way ticket out of a job.

Workplace ethics are made to ensure decorum and strengthen interpersonal relationships between staff members. Sometimes, if an employee gets more than the employment package, they could secure an angry boss as well.

In this case, a strain is placed on the relationship, synergy, and vibe which exists between the duo, a situation that could turn sour if mismanaged.

In a period when the economic situations of many countries are suffering a nose-dive, getting a sack letter will not be in the best interest of any employee hence the need to find a way to manage the workplace situations that might erupt due to misunderstandings.

Other times, it could be to blow off steam, perhaps from stress, anxiety, and family-induced situations. Whatever the situation presents, engaging in a duel or brawl will only unsettle dispositions, and trust me, you might be the one receiving the end of the stick.

Understand Your Job Description

Every organization is quite clear about its recruitment goals, and for intending employees, sticking to the tenets of those objectives will enhance competency and objective performance.

An employer must align their interest with the company’s goals to promote synergy and collaboration. 

Firms, establishments, and business owners have one thing in common, a business mindset that is geared towards making a profit.

So, when an employee does not meet expectations, an angry boss might become rattled by their poor performance and subsequently unleash fury in a very unruly manner. So, what can an employer do in this stance?

Well, to be fair in every sense of judgment, it will be to work assiduously to meet goals and assigned tasks. Get the employee of the month award, score points with the boss, and have a good record that makes your presence in the company an indispensable one.

If that is in place, workplace tension is doused, and the probability of resuming at the office to meet an angry boss will be curbed or better reduced to its barest minimum. 


  1. Avoid situations that will make your boss tick or put them in a situation where they throw a fit, and you will end up in an uncomfortable situation.
  2. The owner of an organization is motivated by results, and if the reverse is the case, they will be greatly displeased, and trust me, an angry boss might as well yell at the entire staff to prove a point.

Keep Assumptions At Bay

Yes! It can be tough and demeaning when you get yelled at, especially in an office space to the glare of other colleagues.

It is embarrassing as well to face an outlet of rage, but an employer must not assume that every time a boss yells or throws a tantrum is associated with neglect or misconduct. 

Sometimes, these situations are an offshoot of pent-up emotions and bottled anger. A boss with an unsettled situation, either from the family or personal stance, can become a ticking time bomb that goes off at the slightest push or trigger.

They are as much human as they are leaders, and the resolve to be better at their craft might push them to the edge. 

An angry boss does not serve a good meal in a moment of rage, but a competent employee can manage the situation and still enjoy the purest moment of bliss, working and employing skills that promote performance and objectivity. 


  1. Do not nurse resentment, as this will only escalate things when faced with an angry boss. Try not to feed off the moments of a faceoff with the boss, apologize and talk things over, then move on.
  2. Do not assume that every frown on the boss’s face is a reward for your misgivings. There could be other triggers, don’t anticipate the worst when they scold or try to make corrections.
  3. Do not match your reservation with the feelings of an angry boss. Sometimes, listen and pay attention so that you can make rational decisions.


To enhance performance and productivity, an employer must be furnished with details that foster good working relationships with other colleagues but especially with the boss.
