It is unarguable that studying and working come with great benefits but Juggling both can be very challenging and requires the ability to divide your time between them.

We understand how difficult this can be; therefore, a list of tips has been put together to show you how you can find a balance between work and your education, handling both effortlessly without feeling overwhelmed or tired.

  • Set your goals
  • Keep your employer and lecturer informed.
  • Create a schedule
  • Plan ahead
  • Know your limitation
  • Prioritize your responsibilities
  • Utilize your time diligently
  • Rest and eat well

Set Your Goals

A lot of people struggle with finding the right commitment and discipline to work and study. Sometimes the solution to this is as simple as setting goals.

Dustin Wax, in one of his pieces, said ‘The science of setting goals states that when setting a goal, we invest ourselves in the target as if we have already accomplished it.

This means that goal setting motivates you to be more committed, helps your focus to be streamlined, reduces distractions and also allot the right energy and resources to accomplish it.

This is a crucial step to take if you successfully want to balance your work and study. It may seem difficult, but doing so can make a huge difference.

Keep Your Employer And Lecturers Informed

Communicating your schedule with them helps them to know the responsibilities they will assign to you and how to help you manage your tasks if you become overwhelmed or find yourself with tight deadlines.

It will also remove the assumption that you are not serious when you cannot meet up with certain activities on both ends.

Good communication is required to achieve a successful blending of work and study.

Create A Schedule

What is a sure way to ensure that you make the most out of your work and education without having to let any suffer? The answer is scheduling.

Creating a schedule helps you prioritize what’s more important and attend to them immediately. It offers you structure and helps you stay committed to what is essential and important, be more productive and not overwork yourself.

To make it easier and more achievable, make sure you don’t plan a schedule that you will not be able to keep as realistic as possible and follow it consistently.

Don’t be stressed out if things don’t happen exactly like you were expecting them to. Be prepared to make adjustments to your schedule if the situation calls for it, and just push the tasks to the following day or even the next week if you have to.

Remember, the aim here is for you not to be overwhelmed with a lot of tasks.

Plan Ahead

You already have an idea of what is expected of you going by your school calendar to your task at work; this gives you the benefit of planning ahead of time. Trust me, you don’t want numerous deadlines creeping on you.

One easy way to make this possible is to get a journal, make a to-do list either daily, weekly or monthly and set a reminder. It will help you track your activities and remind you to complete them on time.

The further you can plan, the easier it will be to create a workable schedule.

Know Your Limitations

It is natural to have a rush of energy when you set out to accomplish new goals, but it is also important to handle tasks within your capacity. Overstretching yourself can cause fatigue, and fatigue can negatively affect your job and academic performance.

Genuinely ask yourself how much work you can cope with and again prioritize and decide what you need to do first.

Prioritize Your Responsibilities

This has been mentioned in almost every tip in this article. When creating a schedule, goal, or plan, there is always this temptation to get the bulk of the task done at a stretch.

What this entails is knowing what tasks need to be done based on your plans and schedules and ranking them by order of importance.

Prioritizing helps you reduce stress, manage your time and create boundaries for your daily activities.

Once you are able to master how to prioritize your tasks and your time, you realize that much of the work that feels urgent doesn’t really need your attention. At least not right away.

Utilize Your Time Diligently

Time management is the process of planning and controlling how much time you spend on a specific activity. As much as you have your plans and tasks sorted out, there is the tendency to spend more time on one than the other.

To successfully do this, you can set a time limit for completing a task. It will help you be more focused and efficient and also help you identify responsibilities that can be outsourced.

Good time management helps an individual to achieve more in a shorter period of time, lowers stress, and leads to more success in your work and education.

Rest and Eat Well

Juggling your work and study schedule will cause you to stress out often. Try to get enough rest and prioritize your health. Do not ignore it or regard it as less important.

Your health is as important as getting your degrees and financial freedom. Remaining healthy both mentally and physically is key to achieving success in both areas.

Eating fast food and getting only a few hours of sleep isn’t a good way to manage all the tasks you have at hand.

Ensure you eat healthy, exercise, and care about your body. It means that you need to listen to yourself and react properly when you notice any symptoms or changes.

Sleep at least a minimum of 7-8 hours, or at least try to. This will help boost your immune system, relax your mind and also cope with stress.

Considering the stress involved with studying and working at the same time, it is important you understand the motivation behind taking this action.

When you feel overwhelmed, it is okay to take a step back and reevaluate your capacity to handle both but also remind yourself why you are making the sacrifices in the first place, focus on your vision and celebrate every accomplishment you make in every phase of the journey.

Conclusion

Hopefully, these tips will make your work and study life much easier as you implement them.

Although it may seem difficult, if others have succeeded in doing so, you can too!
